The Development and Unraveling of a Ponzi Scheme: A Conversation with Travis Correll

This year’s keynote presentation will be a unique look at the case history of an actual Ponzi scheme featuring the fraudster, SEC enforcement counsel, the receiver, and receiver’s counsel.

In an open, “fireside chat” format, the SEC’s Marshall Gandy joins NAFER President Greg Hays and Troutman Sanders Managing Partner David Dantzler as they discuss the development – and eventual unraveling – of convicted Ponzi scheme perpetrator Travis Correll's  $100M Ponzi scheme.

In 2008, Travis Correll was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for running a Ponzi scheme. He was 31 years of age and the case, SEC v. Travis E. Correll, et. al, was filed in the Eastern District of Texas; Marshall Gandy, currently a Senior Officer and Associate Regional Director for the Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations in the Fort Worth Regional Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission, was the SEC enforcement attorney on the case.  Greg Hays, NAFER President, was the court-appointed receiver, and David Dantzler, Managing Partner, New York Office of Troutman Sanders was lead counsel to the receiver.

Mr. Correll served his time and now speaks candidly about how the case developed, the scheme’s ultimate downfall and his ensuing conviction. This will, no doubt, be an interesting inside look at how one Ponzi scheme grew and then unraveled.
